Deputy Chief Ralph Palmer currently serves as second in command and is responsible for providing direction and oversight of the highest level of law enforcement services to our residents, visitors, and business owners.
He began his career with the Maitland Police Department in 1994 as a patrol officer. He served in a variety of assignments and ranks throughout his tenure to include the Community Policing Division, Criminal Investigations, SWAT Team, Honor Guard, Marine Patrol and Bike Patrol.
In 2008, Chief Palmer took over command of the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division where he transformed the division by implementing innovated technologies and establishing partnerships with federal agencies, allowing for task force participation.
He has been the recipient of various awards throughout his career, most notably the Life Saving Medal. He has completed numerous leadership courses including the University of Louisville Command Officer Development Course and the FBI National Academy, Session 258.
Deputy Chief Palmer is a graduate of Columbia College with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration.
