Biography
Stephen Schoene, now retired, worked for 50 years in the construction and design industry. First as a State Certified General Contractor, he focused on residential building and later worked with a commercial contractor. In 2000 he made a career switch to the design side when he joined Rogers, Lovelock & Fritz as a Construction Contracts Administrator. There, he oversaw the construction of projects including hospitals, schools, churches and museums. He spent the last seven years of his career with Rhodes+Brito Architects working primarily on Orange County Public Schools projects.
Both Stephen and his wife, Patricia (a Winter Park High School English teacher), grew up in Central Florida and built their first home in Winter Park in 1984. They moved to Mohawk Trail in Maitland in 2001. While living in these communities, he has been on Brookshire Elementary School PTA, Cub Scout Pack leader, member of the Winter Park Art Festival Committee, little league coach, Relay For Life volunteer, and a current 25-year Board Member for Habitat for Humanity Winter Park/Maitland Affiliate. He served two terms on the Maitland City Board of Adjustments.
An Air Force brat, his father’s last posting was McCoy AFB. He grew up in South Orlando and was educated in Orange County public schools. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from Florida State University. He and Patty have two grown children and five grandchildren. They enjoy kayaking, golf, walking and love OPD (other peoples’ dogs).
